Haqqani son held
The Pakistani authorities have arrested a key member of an insurgent network in the Afghan-Pakistan region. Nasiruddin Haqqani, son of Afghan insurgent leader Jalaluddin Haqqani, belongs to the notorious group called the Haqqani Network. Nasiruddin Haqqani was detained in recent days while driving from Peshawar with four militants to the tribal region of North Waziristan, sources said. The UN says he is believed to be based out of Miranshah in North Waziristan.
[Nasiruddin’s codename is “Dr Khan”, PTI quoted Newsweek magazine as saying. The arrest seemed to be in answer to “US calls for greater toughness against Taliban networks” operating on Pakistan’s border, the report said, adding that Nasiruddin and the other prisoners were moved to an ISI-run safe house.
