Haryana blames Punjab

Haryana’s irrigation minister Ajay Singh Yadav has demanded exemplary action against Punjabi farmers who “deliberately” caused breaches in the Ghaggar river embankment to divert Monsoonal flows into the incomplete Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal to cause massive flooding in both states.

“The breaches in both the river embankment and the canal banks in Punjab territory were man-made and deliberate,” a visibly infuriated Mr Yadav told a news conference in Chandigarh on Monday morning.
According to him the extensive flooding across six Haryana districts and several areas of southern Punjab causing hundreds of crores worth of devastation could well have been avoided or contained if not for the actions of what he described as: “mischievous elements.” Haryana government advisor R.N. Prashar said most of the breaches were made by Punjabi farmers.

Addl A-G, wife shot to death
Hisar, July 12: Additional Advocate General Haryana, Sanjeev Sura, and his wife were shot dead allegedly by his younger brother near their residence here, police said on Monday.
Sanjeev (36) and Ankur were residing in the same building on different floors.
According to the police, Ankur on Sunday night asked his brother to come down from his first floor house for some work. He took Sanjeev out on the street and allegedly shot at him.
On hearing the firing, Sanjeev’s wife, Sunita (32), rushed to the spot but she was also fired at, police said.
The couple were taken to hospital by the neighbours, but doctors declared them brought dead, they added.
The accused along with his wife and two children escaped after the incident, police said. Police suspect that a property dispute could be behind the murders.
A case has been registered under section 302 (murder) and the Arms Act, but no arrest has been made so far, they said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
