Hasan Ali’s judicial custody extended till April 26

A Mumbai sessions court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of alleged money launderer and tax evader Hasan Ali Khan and his associate Kashinath Tapuriah till April 26, a lawyer said.

“Principal sessions judge Sapna Joshi also adjourned the hearing on Khan’s bail plea till April 26,” said Khan’s lawyer I.P. Bagaria.

Khan was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) March 17 after the Supreme Court cancelled the bail granted to him by a trial court.

“We might appeal for Khan’s bail in the Bombay high court,” Bagaria told IANS. Khan's associate and Kolkata-based businessman Tapuriah was arrested by the ED March 24.

Among other things, Khan is suspected to have stashed away around $8 billion in Swiss bank accounts, transferring cash and assets out of the country through dubious means and evading tax on income with an alleged liability of over Rs.40,000 crores.
