Hate speech: Raj faces flak, case

MNS chief Raj Thackeray on Monday came under all round fire for threatening to throw out Biharis from Maharashtra even as a case was filed against him in Nalanda for his hate speech.
A complaint was registered against the MNS chief in Nalanda district court by a social activist under several sections of the IPC.
Raj Thackeray had on Friday threatened to brand Biharis as “infiltrators” and force them out of Maharashtra if authorities in Bihar take legal action against Mumbai policemen who picked up Abdul Qadir from Sitamarhi district without informing their counterparts in that state, evoking a sharp rebuff from Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar.
In Delhi, home minister Sushilkumar Shinde said, “Everybody has a right to go anywhere and seek employment.”
On Raj Thackeray targeting certain news channels, he said, “It is not fair to target media. At times media criticises people and it should be accepted.”
Lashing out at the MNS chief, RJD leader Ram Kirpal Yadav said, “There is no difference between terrorists and these people. Their language is same like terrorists. So the law applicable against terrorists should be used against them also.”
He said, “There is no difference between Raj Thackeray and Bal Thackeray. Government should take action against these people who are spreading hatred in society.” Naresh Aggarwal of SP also condemned the statement of Thackeray.
“We had given a notice in the Lok Sabha today for suspension of question hour for taking the issue of Raj Thackeray. Just for his own little ambition he wants to divide the society in the name of region and SP strongly condemns it,” he said.
BSP supremo Mayawati has accused the Congress-NCP led Maharashtra government of taking lenient view of MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s comments against people hailing from Bihar. She has sought strong action against Mr Thackerey’s “irresponsible statements”.
Lashing out at Mr Thackerey for having threatened to brand people from Bihar coming into Mumbai as “infiltrators”, Ms Mayawati stated that the MNS chief had been making such statements, as there had been no action against him so far from the state government.
“The situation in Maharashtra is so because the state government has not been able to take strict action,” Ms Mayawati told reporters.
