Hazare to fast on Dec. 11 at Jantar Mantar

In an attempt to put pressure on the government, Anna Hazare is planning to hold a day-long fast here on December 11 if he is not satisfied with the final shape of the draft Lokpal Bill, now being examined by a parliamentary standing committee headed by Congress MP Abhishek Singhvi.

Sources said Team Anna is planning a dharna at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar that day if the draft bill approved by the standing committee does not satisfy him. The committee is expected to submit its recommendations by December 7.
Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal, quoting news reports, criticised the government for trying to make the proposed Lokpal simply a “post office” by excluding the lower bureaucracy, higher judiciary, provisions for a citizens’ charter and setting up of Lokayuktas in states out of the draft bill.
There are, meanwhile, conflicting reports on whether Team Anna has got a Ramlila Maidan booking for specific dates as it had indicated. A senior MCD official claimed that no such booking had been allotted by the civic body.
