HC criticises Delhi police
Slamming the Delhi police for its handling of the sensational cash-for-queries scam, the Delhi high court on Friday said, “The police seem to have acted as ‘his master’s voice’ of persons in power when it registered the FIR against the middleman and the petitioners and one or two other persons, sparing a large number of MPs whose
names figured out in the tape.” In strong words against the police, the court said the manner in which the police first registered the case against the journalists showed they were acting as per the advice of the then legislators.
The inquiry committee of both Houses of Parliament had recommended the expulsion of the 11 MPs.
The police, on the recommendations of the parliamentary committee, which suggested an inquiry into the role of the middleman in the sting, had filed an FIR against Anirudh Bahal, Suhasini Raj and the TV channel Aaj Tak.
