HC notice to HRD on yoga
After hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) of an academician, who sought making yoga a part of the health and physical education in schools, a division bench comprising Delhi high court Chief Justice Dipak Mishra and Justice Manmohan on Wednesday issued notice to the ministry of human resource development (HRD) and the NCERT seeking their replies by September 22.
Filing the petition in the court, academician, J.C. Seth said that there was an urgent need to make yoga (science of breathing and asanas) a part of the compulsory education in schools as there were more than 2,000 schools run by the central government in the national capital.
Mr Seth informed the court that through an RTI application, he received information from the HRD ministry that it has decided to nominate National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) as the academic authority for laying down the national curriculum.
