HC orders 17 villages off BTC core area

GUWAHATI

In what may give rise to fresh problem in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), the Gauhati high court has passed an order directing the deletion of 17 villages from core area of Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD).
Powerful All-Bodo Students Union has attributed it to the failure of Central and state governments in honouring the memorandum of settlement signed to form the BTC through 90th constitutional amendment.
Accusing the state and Centre of being anti-tribal, ABSU president Pramod Boro, referring the clause no 3.2 of the memorandum of settlement (MoS), said, “The government had assured to include 95 more villages in addition to the core area of 3,082 villages in BTC within three months on the basis of contiguity and tribal population of 50 per cent.”
He said, “It was in complete violation of the clause 1 of the MoS assuring concerted effort to fulfil the aspirations of the Bodo people relating to the development of cultural identity, language, education and economy.”
