HC voids shoe attack charge for promotion
Quashing the charges of a shoe attack by a CRPF head constable on her senior, a sub-inspector, for allegedly making sexual advances towards her, a division bench comprising Justices Pradeep Nandrajog and Suresh Kait of the Delhi high court ordered her promotion to the next rank of assistant sub-inspector.
Earlier, the CRPF directorate general had issued a memo against head constable Indu Singh in 2009, and put her promotion on hold saying that an inquiry was pending against her on the complaint of sub-inspector M.J. Prakash who was attacked by Singh.
While Singh had admitted attacking her colleague with the shoe, she was unable to prove that she resorted to it to ward off Prakash’s sexual advances.
While paving the way for her promotion, the court, however, stipulated that she would draw her enhanced salary from the date she actually begins working as ASI.
“The petitioner (Singh) is a widow at a young age and has children to support. She has undergone the ordeal of an inquiry into the same subject matter twice in the past and the issue has lingered on for one year and six-and-a-half months,” the court said while allowing her promotion.
