Heavy rains claim 9 lives in Pune
The toll in the rain-related mishaps rose to nine with reports of more casualties from different parts of the city inundated by a heavy downpour on Wednesday night.
Four persons died in a compound wall collapse in the Kothrud area, three labourers were killed when a two-storey building under repairs came down in Ghorpadi, the police and fire brigade said.
One person was electrocuted when he was wading his way through waist-high water in the flash floods in the Wadgaon area and a 40-year-old woman was washed away after her slum dwelling collapsed at Varje.
Fire brigade personnel rescued many people, and shifted them to safer places as rain waters flooded low lying areas.
