Heavy rains claim five in TN

Heavy rain claimed five lives in some southern districts of Tamil Nadu and left some houses damaged, officials have said.

A pregnant woman,her one-and-a-half-year-old baby boy,and another boy were crushed to death when a wall collapsed near Sholavandan in Madurai district yesterday.

In another incident, a three-year old girl was buried alive when the hut in which she was sleeping was crushed in a landslip in the hills near Bodinayakanur in Theni district. Her parents and another sibling managed to escape.

A 12-year-old boy was washed away in flash floods following heavy rain when he was taking bath in a stream near Thucklay in Kanyakumari district yesterday.

While three houses were damaged in Madurai and Virudhungar district, 15 houses were damaged in Tiruvattar in Kanyakumari district, officials said.
