Hegde may quit, sees a conspiracy
Karnataka lokayukta N. Santosh He-gde hinted Thursday he mi-ght step down as a member of the Lokpal Bill drafting committee over “repeated efforts” to derail it. Refer-ring to remarks by Congress leader Digvijay Singh agai-nst him, Justice Hegde said a section of a political party and some civil society representatives were behind the conspiracy to derail the bill.
“This group — politicians, civil society people and even officials — first targeted Anna Hazare, later the Bhushans and Arvind Kej-riwal. Now a politician criticises me for not doing anything in corruption cases against B.S. Yeddyurappa. I am sure Mr Digvijay Singh is aware all cases against the CM are stayed by the high court. This is a clear conspiracy,” Justice Hegde sa-id. He said Congressmen continued to launch smear campaigns despite the party president’s statement that she was against such campaigns.
