Herat broken husband hangs self after wife's suicide

A 25-year-old ayurveda doctor and her techie husband committed suicide at their residence in Amarajyothinagar in Vijaynagar police limits on Tuesday. The police identified the deceased as Sandeep Hegde (28) and his wife Sowmya Kumari.

The two fell in love and got married with their parents’ consent three years ago. Sowmya is from Ujjire near Dharmasthala, while Sandeep is from Mudabidri. Sowmya was running an ayurveda clinic , while Sandeep was working as a process engineer at an IT company, the police said. Sandeep was recently transferred out of state and had gone for three days visiting his new workplace.

He returned home on Tuesday and found his wife hanging in the room. He immediately took the noose off her neck, but she was already dead. Sandeep too hanged himself in another room, the police said. When their parents called them neither Sowmya nor Sandeep answered the call. They immediately alerted their other relatives.

The exact reason behind suicides is yet to be ascertained. Both families claimed that the couple was living happily but quarreled over trivial issues sometimes. They were also upset that they did not have any children, which could be one of the reasons. The bodies were sent to Victoria Hospital mortuary for the postmortem.
