High courts give BJP reasons to cheer
Hailing the Karnataka and Gujarat high courts’ decisions in favour of it, the saffron camp on Friday said that truth has prevailed, as party cadres celebrated at party headquarters. The BJP, which was witnessing unsavoury one-upmanship between its two top leaders, Ms Sushma Swaraj and Mr Narendra Modi, for the past couple of days, finally got a chance to rejoice after the courts’ decision. Afer the Gujarat high court granted bail to its leader and former state home minister Amit Shah and the
Karnataka high court upheld the suspension of 11 rebel MLAs, the BJP reacted by saying “Satyamev Jayate (truth prevails).”
The Congress, however, said the BJP has shown double standard in treating the Gujarat high court’s decision on Amit Shah. Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said the BJP did not object to the CBI’s role in its leader Haren Pandya’s murder case but criticised the very investigating agency in Shah’s case.
Reacting to the courts’ decision, BJP national spokesperson Tarun Vijay said: “We have always maintained and believed that the case against Amit Shah was unfairly investigated. It was a clear case of no evidence. We are happy that the high court has accepted the bail application of Shah. We believe that truth alone triumphs.” The party claimed the “revengeful politics” of the CBI stands exposed after the court’s decision. BJP workers burst crackers and distributed sweets at the party headquarters to celebrate the occasion.
Welcoming the Karnataka high court decision to uphold the Assembly Speaker’s decision disqualifying 11 BJP rebel MLAs, Mr Vijay said the court upheld the anti-defection law in letter and spirit. The 11 MLAs withdrew support from the B.S. Yeddyurappa government earlier this month. Meanwhile, reacting to Shah’s case, Mr Tewari said: “The father of Pandya (Haren Pandya) has raised questions about the probe into his death. But the BJP held that the CBI was good in that case. In the case of Amit Shah, the BJP is questioning the role of CBI. I think the BJP needs to eschew double standards and have one stand for the CBI.”
