Hillary, Sonia, Nooyi in list of world’s 20 ‘power moms’
US secretary of state Hillary Clinton has topped Forbes’ list of the World’s 20 Most Powerful Moms, which also ranked India-born Indra Nooyi third and Congress president Sonia Gandhi sixth.
The list, released by Forbes ahead of Mother’ Day Sunday, placed Ms Clinton, 64, at number one. The list, chosen from diverse spheres of government, business, entertainment and philanthropy, ranked Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, 64, who has a daughter, at second position.
Ms Nooyi, 56, PepsiCo chairman and a mother of two, was ranked third. She was quoted as saying if her kids call in the middle of a major meeting, she takes the call.
Mrs Gandhi, 65, mother of Priyanka and Rahul, was ranked sixth, ahead of US First Lady Michelle Obama (ranked seventh) and Burma’s iconic democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi (ranked 20th).
The magazine said: “Power moms must develop unique strategies to succeed in both boardrooms and playrooms.” ForbesWoman analysed the annual list of the world’s 100 most powerful women — based on money controlled, decision-making power and multiple measures of influence — and teased out the moms at the top of their game. Also on the list are Melinda Gates, wife of Microsoft’s Bill Gates, International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg.
