Hindu body files ‘caveat’
Despite the moves for a negotiated settlement on the Ayodhya title suit by some parties, the process for the final round of litigation in the Supreme Court was virtually set in motion with the Hindu Mahasabha filing a “caveat” pleading that no order be passed without notice being issued to it.
“Kindly let no order be passed in the matter without prior notice to the caveator,” said a petition filed by Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha counsel Vevek Sharma.
Mahasabha president Swami Chakrapani said while his outfit was not opposed to a “negotiated settlement”, there was no possibility of its success as there were sharp differences among the 27 litigants.
“Mediation and conciliation” could lead to concrete results only if there was complete understanding among all parties, the counsel said. “But in this case, several parties have already said they would go to the Supreme Court. So how can there be any reconciliation?” he asked.
