Hindu, Christian pilgrims will get a grant
Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa announced Tuesday a subsidy to Hindus undertaking pilgrimage to Mansarovar in China and Muktinath in Nepal and Christians going to Jerusalem.
She said her government would extend financial assistance to 500 Hindus in a year — 250 going to Mansarovar and another 250 to Muktinath.
CM said the state government would pay Rs 40,000 of the Rs 1 lakh needed per person to visit Mansarovar and Rs 10,000 of the Rs 25,000 required for a Muktinath trip.
Ms Jayalalithaa said she had already announced during Christmas celebrations last year a financial aid of Rs 20,000 each in a year to 500 Christians to undertake pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
“I had made a promise during the 2011 Assembly polls that the government will extend financial aid to Christians wanting to visit Jerusalem and Hindus to Mansarovar in China and Muktinath in Nepal,” she said.
