Hit-&-run ‘driver’ held on plane to Russia
Shahid Khan, the Ukraine MBBS student accused of driving the Honda City which killed four labourers late Sunday night, was arrested by the police in dramatic circumstances at Delhi airport early Tuesday morning after he had already boarded a flight to Russia. The aircraft was stopped on the runway to stop him fleeing the country.
Shahid, 24, a native of Alwar in Rajasthan, was caught around 2 am after he had boarded Air Astana’s Flight KC-908, deputy commissioner of police (south) H.G.S. Dhaliwal told reporters.
Shahid, now in his final year of MBBS at Kursk Medical University, had come to India on June 24 on vacation and was due to return in the first week of August.
“After the incident, Shahid changed his plans and advanced his schedule,” the DCP said. Police officials said his father was a property dealer at Mewat.
“The car which met with the accident belonged to Shahid’s uncle. He had taken it for a joyride and also to fetch food for his uncle as well as for himself and his friends,” the DCP said.
Shahid and his two friends allegedly had 12 bottles of beer before the accident.
