HIV+ girl’s agony moves PM
Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the National Convention of Zila Parishads on HIV/AIDS organised by the Forum of Praliamentarians in New Delhi on Monday. The Prime Minister turned emotional when a 17-year-old HIV-positive girl, Rumana, narrated her tale of agony at the convention. The Prime Minister’s eyes turned moist as he heard Rumana speaking about how she got the HIV infection from her mother. “I have cleared my 12th Class and wish to study further. I wish to live a life of dignity... Please help me do so,” the girl said. Mrs Gandhi, who was seated next to the Prime Minister, listened to the girl with rapt attention. PHOTO: Sondeep Shankar
