Thirteen people died and at least 25 were battling for life after consuming spurious liquor in Odisha's Cuttack district, police said on Wednesday.
The victims fell ill after consuming moonshine they had bought from a man at Tukuliapada village on Monday. Baidhar Bhoi, the brew seller, too died Tuesday morning.
"The toll stood at 13," Deputy Commissioner of Police S. Praveen Kumar told agencies. At least 25 people were taken to hospitals where some were in a critical condition, he said.
Excise Commissioner Sudarsana Nayak said the victims consumed an ayurvedic formulation which contained high percentage of alcohol.
