Hospitals, fuel depots raided in Maha drive
Acting on several complaints and tip-offs about sub-standard fuel and medicines being sold by government institutions, officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a special drive from May 12 to May 20, raiding government-run hospitals as well as fuel depots across Maharashtra.
In Mumbai, two Western Railway-run hospitals were raided by a joint task force comprising officials of the CBI, the central drug standard control organisation, WR vigilance department as well as a national drug inspector.
At the Jagjivan Ram Hospital in Mumbai Central, the teams recovered copies of letters addressed to the hospital’s medical director sent by the chief medical director, WR regarding replacement of certain drugs which were found to be sub-standard during lab tests. Samples of 14 different drugs were subsequently collected and have been sent for testing. In a similar raid at the Western Railway Hospital in Bandra, 12 samples of different drugs were collected and sent for testing. Similar raids were carried out at the JB Herbal Pharmacy in Moga, Punjab and Nalini Ayurvedic, Nagpur on May 14. Proprietors of both companies have been arrested, officials said.
Meanwhile, in a raid on the CGHS medical strong depot in Kane Nagar, Sion on Wednesday, a joint team of CBI officials as well as officers from concerned departments collected 12 samples and sent them for testing. The depot provides medical supplies to 28 CGHS dispensaries situated in Mumbai. Further action will be taken after test results arrive.
