Hoteliers ban shawarma across Kerala
The Hotel and Restaurants Association in Kerala has decided to stop selling shawarma in the state following the death of a youth in Thiruvananthapuram after consuming it.
Hotels and Restaurants Association president N.B. Krishna Kurup told reporters on Thursday. The decision was taken due to the risk of old meat being used to make the dish, he said.
A district committee meeting of the association has decided to launch a special campaign to make its members aware of the changes in food safety laws.
The association had already brought out a booklet in this regard, Kurup said. The food safety booklet and pamphlet will be circulated widely among the association’s members, he added.
The hotels from which contaminated food was seized by food safety officials in the city were not members of the association, he said.
