UP House seeks living MLA’s death certificate
In a bizarre sequence of events, the UP Vidhan Sabha secretariat has sent a letter to Mrs Manjula Singh, wife of sitting congress MLA Vivek Singh, asking her to submit her husband’s “death certificate”.
The letter asks his wife to submit the attested copy of his death certificate as soon as possible so that she can get timely payment of the dependent pension. The letter, dated February 22 from account section-1 of Vidhan Sabha secretariat is signed by special secretary Dinesh Chandra Awasthi, and was received at the MLA’s house in Banda district through registered post.
“How do I prove that I am alive? I have attended the recently-concluded Budget Session of the state Assembly but the officials of the Vidhan Sabha secretariat are apparently so keen to see me dead that they have asked my wife to furnish my death certificate,” he said on phone from Banda.
The Congress legislator, who had first raised the Banda rape case in which BSP MLA Purshottam Naresh Dwiwedi is an accused, has already claimed a threat to his life since the accused legislator has publicly threatened to “set right” those who got him behind the bars.
Meanwhile, the principal secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Pradeep Dubey, said that he had already ordered a probe into the case and said that those found guilty of sending the letter would be punished.
