How can I forge my sign: Pranab
“Will I forge my own signature? A forgery takes place when someone forges someone else’s signature,” UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee said on Wednesday.
He was responding to BJP’s threat to file an election petition, a day after it termed as 'fabricated' Mukherjee’s letter of resignation from the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.
Mukherjee, who arrived in the state capital in the afternoon as part of his nation-wide tour drumming up support for his candidature, said the complaint had already been looked into by the returning officer, and a decision taken.
Replying to a question on how he managed to tame the CPM but not the Trinamool Congress, he replied with a queer smile that every political party took its decisions on the basis of the prevailing conditions.
“Policy decisions are discussed at the time of the general elections. However, when it comes to presidential polls, such issues are not.” He said he hoped Mamata Banerjee and her TMC would ultimately back him. In the 140-member Kerala assembly, the UDF has 73 members and the LDF 67.
Mukherjee is expected to get the support of 125 MLAs as, apart from the Congress and its allies, the Left constituents – the CPM and JD(S)— and the NCP have pledged their support to his candidature.
However, the CPI and the RSP had at the national level decided to abstain from the
voting.
