HRD ministry to focus on public grievances
Mass protests led by social activist Anna Hazare and yoga guru Baba Ramdev seem to have put tremendous pressure on the Central government, forcing Union human resources development minister Kapil Sibal to direct his officials to make public grievance redressal system a priority.
In a letter, senior officials of the ministry have been asked to reserve the first-half of every Wednesday for hearing and resolution of public grievances related to the HRD ministry.
Official sources stated that the step has been initiated as the government is under tremendous pressure for its reported failure to address public grievances effectively.
Sources stated that it is a first-of-its-kind step being initiated by a Union ministry to address public grievances on a priority.
It is understood that in the directive, issued a few days ago, the HRD minister has instructed all officials with the rank of under secretary and above to make themselves available for meeting the public on Wednesday of each week between 10 am to 1 pm.
“The officials have been asked not to fix any meetings during the first-half on Wednesday. It has been
made clear to these officials that the matter of addressing public grievances is of utmost importance
for the government,” sources added.
