Hunt on for auto driver who ran over cop’s foot
Bengaluru: The entire city police force has launched a massive manhunt for an autorickshaw driver who almost killed an on-duty traffic police sub inspector on Friday. Sub inspector D. Yathiraj was deputed to check motorists violating traffic rules on Wednesday. In the evening, he found a few autorickshaws parked in a no parking zone near the Ganesha Temple on the Ring Road off Kanakapura Road. As usual, some auto drivers drove away after seeing the cop except one driver.
The auto driver who had violated traffic rules by parking his vehicle in a no parking zone, was asked to show his driving license by the SI. The driver had also broken the rules by not displaying his identity card inside the auto. When the cop demanded an explanation on why the card was not displayed, the driver assaulted him on which he fell on the road.
The driver then deliberately ran over the SI who at the last second, managed to move away from the front wheel. But his left leg got caught under the rear wheels of the auto. The driver managed to escape but the cop noted down the registration number of the auto. The 58-year-old sub inspector who fractured his left leg, is being treated as an inpatient at a private hospital.
The injured cop was immediately attended to by passers by who took him in another auto to Sagar Hospital. Following this incident, the victim flashed a message to the control room and provided them the registration details of the auto. Since then, a manhunt is on for the driver.
