Hyderabad: Mohini Mishra, the 19-year-old UoH student who died on Sunday after falling from the terrace of an under construction building in the campus, lay unattended after she fell as her friends did not realise that she was missing.
By the time her friends, who were drinking on the terrace, found her and called the 108 ambulance service, half an hour had passed, said sources within the university.
“We came to know that there was a delay in giving medical assistance. The victim was found hurt on the ground 20 minutes after the incident. Her friends were drunk and negligent,” said a student of Integrated Masters of Arts, UoH.
Though the victim was conscious when she was taken to the university health centre, she succumbed to her injuries a few hours after being admitted to a private hospital in the city.
“We had met just three days back and she told me that she wished to do an internship in Canada at the University of Alberta. She was inquiring how to get enroled in the program,” said Phani Krishna, a student of Integrated Masters, Linguistics.
Mohini’s body was taken to Lucknow by her family on Monday after post-mortem.
Students want Mohini’s friends to be suspended
A day after the tragic death of 19-year-old Mohini Mishra in the campus, University of Hyderabad witnessed widespread protests by  students.
They demanded that Mohini’s friends, who were on the terrace with her, be suspended for negligence. They also blamed the varsity for not taking precautionary measures to prevent such accidents.Scores of students, who gathered at the administrative building shouting slogans, submitted a representation to the vice-chancellor on Monday.
Ambedkar Student Association leader Prashant said that the authorities should set up committees to inquire into the mishap and find the security lapses in the campus.
“We also demand the suspension of the students who were partying with the victim,” he said, adding that there would be an all-party meeting and a University General Body meeting with the students soon.
University VC  Ramakrishna Ramaswami said that a proctorial committee and a fact-finding committee had been set up to investigate the mishap. “The proctorial committee will look into the security aspects and teenage issues in the campus, while the fact-finding committee will find out how the accident happened,” he said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
