Hyderabad touted as UT, 13 villages added
Hyderabad: Even as the possible status of Hyderabad if the state is divided is being debated, the state government on Saturday issued orders seeking to merge 13 more gram panchayats with the city, taking the total villages proposed to be amalgamated with the state capital to 38.
The GO issued on Saturday has fuelled speculation about the future of the state capital. While TRS leader T. Harish Rao said that the move was aimed at making Hyderabad a Union Territory, BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy lashed out at the government for not taking the opinion of political parties on the city’s expansion.
“The state government is following the real estate lobby and bureaucrats’ opinion for geographical expansion of the city,” he said. Voicing suspicion, former mayor Teegala Krishna Reddy of the Telugu Desam asked: “Why is the Congress adding more geographical area to the city, particularly at a time when there are indications that a decision will be taken on Telangana?
