I am a Kashmiri, Rahul tells J&K
Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Thursday sought to strike a chord with the people of Kashmir by telling them he was a Kashmiri himself.
“I want to say it again today that my family also comes from Kashmir and I’m also a Kashmiri,” he asserted while addressing a rally at Z-Morh near the hill resort of Sonamarg, about 120 km north of Srinagar.
Mr Gandhi was earlier joined by chief minister Omar Abdullah and others to lay the foundation of a tunnel through the Zoji-la (pass) which, on completion, would ensure all-weather connectivity and faster communication between the Kashmir Valley and the Ladakh region.
Turning to the youth of the state, Mr Gandhi said that he wants to involve them in the development process.
“I want to hear you, understand your problems and work for their solution,” he said, adding that he had visited the state last year, came here again this year and would come again and again to meet the people.
He asserted there has been significant development in the country in all fields of life.
