I’m losing confidence, says Asha
“I lose confidence as the deadline is drawing to a close,” an anguished Asha Alex, wife of the abducted Sukma district collector Alex Paul Menon, said on Monday night.
Asha, fighting for the release of her husband, abducted by Maoists on Saturday evening, looked worried as the ultras have said her husband’s health is “critical” and there was no further details of his health condition.
“Through the media, I appeal to the Maoists to release my husband as early as possible considering his ill health,” she said, talking to reporters, fighting back tears.
Asha, who had been maintaining calm and poise looked disturbed as the dead line reportedly served by the Maoists drawing to a close on Tuesday.
Appreciating the efforts being made by the Chhattisgarh and central governments, she said she was confident the governments would secure the release of her husband. As the time is ticking away, “I lose confidence,” she said.
She said mediator named by the Maoists (All India Adivasi Mahasabha leader Manish Kunjam) was taking some tablets, but it was not clear how critical her husband is, she said.
She expressed her gratitude to Tamil Nadu Chief minister J Jayalalithaa, leaders of various political parties and the people of the state who pledged their support and share their concern.
Meanwhile, DMK leader M. K. Stalin called on the Alex’s parents and father-in-law at their Muggaipair house in Chennai.
“I called on them as they live in my constituency and assured that all will end good,” he said. He also told the family members that his father and DMK leader M Karunanidhi has taken up the issue with Prime minister Manmohan Singh.
