I-T quizzes Raja’s kin over disproportionate wealth
Former communications minister A. Raja’s elder brother and former IFS officer A. Ramachandran was quizzed by the income-tax department in Tiruchy on Monday in connection with the alleged amassing of disproportionate wealth.
Summoned by the income-tax department officials, Dr Ramachandran appeared for inquiry at the regional income-tax office and was quizzed by a senior officer in the rank of a deputy director for about three hours.
Dr Ramachandran, is currently serving as the director, the centre for climate change and adaptation research at Anna University in Chennai.
It may be recalled that Mr Raja’s wife, Ms Parameswari, was also quizzed by the I-T department on June 25, while his other brother A. Kaliyaperumal and brother-in-law Rangaraj were quizzed on June 28.
The inquiry was to get certain clarifications regarding income-tax returns they had filed.
