In a major move to develop India into a global giant in movie technology and skill, Union information and broadcasting ministry has formulated a blueprint for the establishment of the Global Film School at Pune. The proposal is to upgrade the existing Film & Television Institute of India at Pune to the Global Film School.
The blueprint has proposed the school be established as an institute of national importance, its diplomas will be equivalent to degrees, the institute be made self reliant and launch courses as per industry requirement. Sources stated that the blueprint has been created after taking the stakeholder perception in mind as information and broadcasting minister Ambika Soni had desired. The minister is understood to be keen on the involvement of stakeholders in the establishment of the Global Film School as she wants market needs to be addressed. The final stages of consultations with stakeholder has just been concluded. The consultation process is in keeping with the new policy of the information and broadcasting ministry wherein decisions on all important issues such as creation of a National Centre for Excellence in Animation, Gaming and Special Effects are taken after detailed discussions with stakeholders.
The blueprint aims to make it a centre of excellence and leader in media education in the country. Sources stated that the emphasis will also be on launching courses in new technologies and new media as required by the industry.
