I&B ministry achieves key targets
Union information and broadcasting ministry has gone into an overdrive, achieving several important goals over the last few months. Amongst several positive steps initiated by the ministry are securing Cabinet approval for new Press and Registration of Books Act, expansion of Doordarshan DTH, digitisation target of cable services in 2014, approval for FM phase-III and clearance for the proposed Prasar Bharati Act amendment.
Official sources said that a number of these proposals were awaiting clearance for the past several years. It is understood that Union I&B minister Ambika Soni had taken a proactive approach in getting all these proposals through.
The clearance of these important proposals will ensure that the government is ready to meet the future needs of the media and entertainment markets, sources said.
One of the major achievements of the ministry has also been the successful conduct of the GoM on media briefings.
The top most ministers of the government are regularly at hand to put through the government perspective on important national events and issues.
