I&B nod to CBI probe against Lalli
Union information and broadcasting ministry has given its go-ahead to the CBI to initiate a detailed criminal investigation against suspended Pra-sar Bharati CEO B.S. Lalli.
Sources stated that the I&B ministry’s nod has been given to the CBI for investigating Mr Lalli’s role in the award of broadcasting rights for Commonwealth Games. The V.K. Shunglu committee, appointed by the Prime Minister to investigate various aspects of corruption in Commonwealth Games, had alleged that Mr Lalli had caused a loss of `135 crores to the exchequer by the flawed process. The go ahead by the I&B ministry comes after the CBI sought the ministry’s nod to initiate an investigation against the two officials. Sources stated that the ministry is so far undecided on a CBI probe to investigate Doordarshan director-general Aruna Sharma’s role in the process of awarding broadcasting rights.
