IB warns Andhra police about IM shadow outfit

The Intelligence Bureau has alerted the Andhra Pradesh police that the Indian Mujahideen’s shadow outfit, Jam Iyyathul Ansarul Muslimeen, is also active in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
According to the IB, several activists like Bada Sajid, who are part of IM and JIAM modules, are still at large and pose a danger to the country’s internal security.
“Pak ISI-controlled LeT has been able to create modules across the country and recent investigations into incidents of terrorism have revealed that they belong to IM and JIAM. These two outfits function as the Indian front of LeT. The absconding IM and JIAM terrorists may not be present in their native state and may be hiding elsewhere,” said an IB official.
The terror suspects from Bhatkal of Dakshina Karnataka are Riyaz Bhatkal, Mohammed Hussain Farhan, Sultan Shah, Iqbal Bhatkal and Yasin Bhatkal.
Intelligence reports suggest that Hussain Farhan, Sultan Shah and K.P. Sabir are key members of JIAM, a shadow outfit of IM which is operating under a different name to throw focus off their activities. In some the recent blasts JIAM, which is basically involved in recruitment, funding and helping terrorists escape, helped IM cadres.
Others who are in the list of IM and JIAM cadres are, Muddasir Yasin of Mangalore, Mohsin Choudary of Pune, Abu Faisal — a BHMS student of Andheri in Mumbai — Abdus Subhan alias Tauqeer of Thane, Asadullah Akhtar, Ahmed Mian, Dr Shahnawaz Alam of Azamgarh in UP, Mohammed Khali of Okhla in Delhi, Sajid Qureshi alias Bada Sajid of Jamia Nagar in Delhi, Mirz Shabad Baig — a B.Tech graduate from New Delhi — Ariz Khan — an engineering student from Muzaffar Nagar, Mohammed Shameer Fagnest, K.P. Sabir from Kannur in Kerala, Afridi and Mujeeb from Ahmedabad.
A state intelligence official said, “At least 25 suspects belonging to IM are absconding. IM is still active in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. We are also getting information of activities in Jharkhand. There are no known cadres of IM from Hyderabad. But others like Danish Riyaz and the Bhatkal brothers worked here in the city.”
Though officials are claiming that there are no known cadres of IM in the city, the possibility of sleeper cells cannot be ruled out.
Counter-intelligence teams of the state police are currently in Mumbai to study the patterns of the recent bombings.
The state police are exchanging information about the terror modules with the Maharashtra ATS though the ATS teams are yet to arrive in the state.
