IIT-B to give energy solutions at Vision ’35
Students from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) have been selected to participate in the Energy Technologies Vision 2035, to present their suggestions, inputs and ideas for new energy solutions.
The Energy Technologies Vision 2035 has been initiated by the Technology and Information Forecasting Assessment Council (TIFAC), department of Science and Technology (DST). The IITians will not only present their ideas and suggestions, but they would also collect the same from students across the country. Speaking about the initiative, Professor Ranjan Banerjee, chairman of the Energy Technologies Vision 2035 said, including students in the process of framing the vision was inevitable, as they were the ones who would have to deal with scarcity of natural resources by 2035.
“While there are panels of experts who will be providing their inputs for framing the vision statement, students’ suggestions will be instrumental in streamlining the same,” said Prof. Banerjee, who is also dean R& D, IIT-B.
He added that the students were divided into 21 groups, and each group had their individual websites for collating ideas. “The students have been given a free hand in deciding the mode of collecting data, and the institute will not be interfering in anyway,” he said.
The students will be holding competitions, quizzes and other programmes to collect the ideas, which will then be made into presentations that will be shown to the DST. Pending approval of the DST, the ideas will be integrated in the Energy Technologies Vision 2035 statement.
