IM, Simi modules worry security agencies

May 3: Active modules of Indian Mujahideen, Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Tayyaba and Students Islamic Movement of India (Simi) in different parts of the country are giving sleepless nights to the security agencies. Admitting that mere “alert” is not enough, sources in the Central agencies say that these modules need to be cracked to check terror activities in the country.

Sources believe that in the absence of any specific or actionable intelligence inputs, the task of the security agencies to crack the modules of terror outfits, as well as militants’ nefarious plan, becomes difficult. Citing the example of latest alert issued by the Central agencies of a possible terror attack in New Delhi, sources said that the alert was sounded without any ground work and done in a very routine manner.
There was an urgent need to crack the modules of different militants outfits which were active in the country, sources said. According to intelligence inputs, IM and Simi modules are still active in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Delhi. The recent blast in Pune revealed that how LeT handlers based in Pakistan used IM modules to execute their plan in the India, sources added. There are also confirmed reports LeT is strengthening IM and Simi modules in the those districts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
As far as “over ground workers” of Hizbul is concerned, the recent arrest of Basheer Ahmad, alias “Pepsi Bomber”, in Anand district revealed that the militant outfit is now trying to set up base in Gujarat also. The Hizbul has also set up its base in some southern states including Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, sources said, adding that the state governmentsmust identify the Hizbul modules operating there.
“They should not wait for any specific inputs from the central agencies regarding the modules operating there,” said a source.
Meanwhile, latest intelligence inputs suggest that more than 200 militants were ready to enter India. Pak based handlers are also in touch with different modules of LeT, IM and HM operating in India, so that once the militants enter India, they get all the support from them, sources added.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
