'Indecency' case against SRK in Kerala

The Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Tuesday has directed the Palarivattom Police to register a case against Khan for 'dancing with cheer girls' during his recent visit to Kochi, because he had violated the Indecent Publication of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
Magistrate M. Ijas passed the order when the criminal miscellaneous petition was filed by Mathew Saju Pulluvazhi of Perumbavoor. The actor was in the city for the inauguration of a showroom of Emmanuel Silks and had performed with 'scantily dressed' women artists at the Kaloor International Stadium, it has been alleged.
The petitioner argued that the actor had violated the Act by performing with a group of cheerleaders. He pointed out that the publication or exhibition of any advertisement, which contains indecent representation of women in any form, is punishable with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, and with fine which may extend to two thousand rupees.
The court also directed the police to register a crime against managing partners T. O. Byju and T. O. Shyju of Thrissur as the petitioner argued the showroom owner and the actor violated the norms as per the Act.
An indecent representation of women means the depiction in any manner of the figure of a woman; her form or body or any part thereof in such way as to have the effect of being indecent, or derogatory to, or denigrating women, or is likely to deprave, corrupt or injure the public morality or morals, the petitioner argued.
