India do not conform to existing archetypes: Study

As India inches towards Universal health coverage (UHC), a new study in the reputed medical journal the Lancet has revealed that countries moving towards Universal health coverage, including India, has not chosen a model of healthcare based on existing systems developed in higher income countries and do not conform to existing archetypes.
In their special series in UHC, though experts suggest that progress towards UHC results in substantial improvements to the health of the population, authors have also warned that progress towards UHC may be at risk in the current financial climate.
The experts analysed nine countries in Asia and Africa, including India, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria, Ghana, Indonesia, Phillippines, Rwada and Vietnam that are currently moving towards Universal health coverage. “Strikingly, the authors find that none of these countries have chosen a model of health care based on existing systems developed in higher-income countries, instead developing their own solutions to the challenges of establishing universal health coverage,” said the Lancet in their special online collection of papers surrounding Universal health coverage.
The experts studied the health reforms and patters in all the nine countries.
