India hopeful on US, Russia steps on Syria
Welcoming the framework agreement reached between the United States and Russia on time-bound safeguarding and destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons stockpiles, India is hopeful that this will also reinvigorate the peace efforts towards a political solution to the Syrian conflict.
In a statement issued here on Monday, spokesperson of the external affairs ministry said that India also welcomes the recent steps taken by Syria to accede to the Chemical Weapons Convention.
The spokesperson’s comments come in the wake of the framework agreement that has been reached between US secretary of state Kohn Kerry and Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov. Under this accord, Syria’a chemical weapons are to be secured and eliminated.

2 cops held for attempt to rape

Two police officials in Bihar were arrested for allegedly trying to rape a junior woman colleague in a drunken condition after inviting her to their barracks. The woman constable managed to escape and complained to her superiors, leading to the arrests.
Subedar Dudhnath Prasad, the troop-in-charge of the women’s battalion of the Bihar Military Police (BMP) at Darbhanga, and havildar Shamsul Zoha Khan, the barrack in-charge there, were arrested on Sunday night from Laheriasarai in the northern district, some 120 km from Patna, senior officials said on Monday.
The victim’s complaint about the incident of Sunday night in Samastipur district was swiftly followed by an inquiry by Samastipur SP Chandrika Prasad as ordered by DIG Anwar Hussain and her allegations were found to be true.
