India, Pak troops exchange sweets, bullets
In a sequel to such or similar incidents witnessed in the past, the Indian and Pakistan troops on Monday exchanged bullets and sweets on a day when India was celebrating its 65th Independence Day.
BSF officials said that the Pakistani Rangers (PR) fired small arms and rocket-propelled-grenades towards one of their forward posts in Ramgarh Sector of Samba area along the international border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir. According to BSF DIG (G Branch) S. Oberoi, the PR from facing Imran Post resorted to “unprovoked” shelling at BSF’s Ballard Post at 3.45 am. “It continued for 25 minutes,” he said, adding that his jawans “effectively retaliated back.” No casualties or damage to property on the Indian side of the IB called by working boundary by the Pakistanis were reported.
The officer termed the incident as a clear case of ceasefire violation and said that a protest would be lodged with the Pakistan authorities. Islamabad has not reacted to the Indian charge as yet.
A few hours after the hostile act, Pakistani Army officials walked to the Indian side of LoC at Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing point in Poonch district to greet their Indian counterparts on their Independence Day, reports said. Pakistanis were being led by Mujahid Regiment commandant Col. Umar Gul who met Indian counterparts led by Colonel Cristopher and gifted sweets and fruits to the latter. The Indians served tea and sweets to their guests during the flag meeting that lasted an hour.
On Sunday, a similar flag meeting had been held between the BSF officials and their counterparts from PR in Ramgarh Sector at which the Pakistanis were gifted with sweets and fruits.
