India strong if Cong is strong: PM
Claiming that at the core of the party’s politics in the country is that of unity in the society and not of dividing it, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday said a strong Congress has always been a pre-requite for strong India.
Addressing partymen here at the AICC session, Dr Singh said, “If the Congress is strong, India is strong. This because our politics is about bringing the society together and not to divide it.” He asked the leaders and workers of the party to work towards bringing the Congress closer to the “aam aadmi”.
Hailing the role of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, he said it was her effort that propelled the party to come to power at the Centre for a second continuous term.
Expressing confidence that under her leadership the party would continue to be in power for a long time, he hoped Mrs Gandhi’s continued guidance would be available to the party, which always worked for the weaker sections of the society.
Appreciating the contributions made by the young leadership of the party, Dr Singh said, “I believe that our young colleagues will endeavour to achieve the dreams which we saw for the country.”
We have a great history. The present is very satisfying and future is bright.”
