India-US homeland security talks today
Home minister P. Chidambaram and US secretary of homeland security Janet Napolitano will jointly launch the US-India homeland security dialogue here on Friday.
According to sources this will be the first meeting of the homeland security dialogue which will seek to coordinate the counter-terrorism and law enforcement cooperation as it relates to the internal security of the respective countries. Besides, mutual assistance in probe like Mumbai terror attacks and trans-national crime will also be discussed during the day-long meeting, sources added.
“The US-India homeland security dialogue will also discuss security situation in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Activities of various extremist groups and security issues concerning both the countries are expected to be discussed by Mr Chidambaram and his American counterpart Napolitano at length. Security situation in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan will also be discussed by the two leaders,” sources said.
Sources further said, “Coastal security, cyber security, mega city policing, countering illicit financing and trans-national crime, cyber security, providing homeland security equipment to each other and capacity building will also figure during the day-long meeting.”
