Indira govt’s decision was whimsical: MP BJP
The executive committee of Madhya Pradesh unit of the BJP on Wednesday passed a resolution blaming the former Indira Gandhi-led government at the Centre for taking the “whimsical decision” to permit Union Carbide India Limited to set up the hazardous methyl isocyanate-based pesticide plant on October 31, 1975.
“This was done at a time, when Emergency had been imposed and people were living under terror,” the BJP resolution said.
Tonnes of poisonous gas had leaked from the Carbide factory in Bhopal leading to the worst industrial catastrophe, the BJP resolution says. Through this resolution, the BJP has paid homage to those who lost their lives in this tragedy.
