Indo-US higher education meet postponed

The first Indo-US higher education summit scheduled for mid June in Washington has been postponed.
It is understood that scheduling conflict was faced for securing dates of Union human resource development minister Kapil Sibal and the United States secretary of state Hillary Clinton, who were likely to jointly co-chair the event.

Official sources stated that the summit is now likely to be held at a later date and would not affect the two governments commitment in furthering the cause of higher education.
The rescheduling of the summit is, however, likely to delay the initiation of wide ranging partnership in the field of education being proposed by the two countries.
As first reported by this paper, the proposed partnership between the two countries was likely to help the expansion of education sector in India. The summit agenda included setting up of an Indo-US Education Council, collaboration in establishing higher education institutions and research, developing faculty for new established IITs and central universities.
