Initial target was Israeli embassy?
Mohammed Ahmed Kazmi, who was arrested by the special cell in connection with the attack on an Israeli embassy car on February 13, has revealed that the initial target of the assailant was Israel’s diplomatic mission in Chankya Puri.
Top police sources disclosed that the plan to target Israeli mission was, however, dropped after the foreign national, who is suspected to have carried out the attack and left the country on the day of the attack itself, found the security arrangements at the Israeli embassy “risky”. Sources said this foreign national is believed to have links with the spy agency of Iran. “Kazmi had provided him shelter and also helped him reconnoitring the area around the embassy. Together, they visited the embassy several times to check the movement of diplomats working in the embassy. He, however, found the target too risky and changed his plan of action,” the source disclosed.
Sources revealed that the black bike, which was used in the execution of the attack, was purchased from Karol Bagh by the assailant with the help of Kazmi.
“We have just obtained his custody. Once we interrogate him extensively, more facts regarding the case will surface,” a senior special cell official said.
