Inquiry against Andamans Maj.
The Army has ordered a Court of Inquiry that will probe the alleged breach of cyber communication norms (for armed forces personnel) by a Major posted in the Andamans, who was being probed earlier for alleged transfer of information from his computer to a computer in Pakistan. Army sources, however, said on Friday that the
espionage angle had been ruled out. As per rules, computers of armed forces personnel storing any defence information should not be linked to the Internet.
The initial probe in the case had been conducted earlier jointly by the National Investigation Agency and Military Intelligence. As reported by this newspaper in June, Army sources had already indicated then that a Court of Inquiry would be constituted on the issue of alleged violation of cyber rules by the concerned Army Major once the joint probe was completed. According to sources, the NIA had earlier found about 2,500 defence presentations on the “compromised” computer of the Army Major.
Meanwhile, one of the accused in the Malegaon bomb blasts case Lt. Col. P.S. Purohit is likely to be terminated from Army service very soon by MoD.
