Insurance officer killed by ‘scribe’

In an incident that showcases the law-and-order situation in the state capital, a development manager of an insurance company was shot dead outside his office building in Aliganj when he tried to protect a female subordinate from being harassed by a policy holder.
The offended customer decided to settle scores and shot the manager dead. The assailant absconded after committing the crime and cops were hunting for him.
Ajay Saraswat, 32, had been working as area development manager at Max Life Insurance for past three years.
A young woman who has been working in the same office for the past one year as an insurance agent told Saraswat that Girihar Gopal Dixit, 48, a policy holder, was harassing her on one pretext or the other. He approached the women employee frequently under the pretext of clarifying details of his policy. He also called up the woman at odd hours.
Dixit, incidentally, is the editor of a local magazine and also has interests in property dealing.
Saraswat had called Dixit and had warned him a few days back.
On Tuesday, Dixit called the manager to his place saying that a friend was keen to buy an insurance policy. When Saraswat reached Dixit’s place, he was beaten up.
Saraswat managed to escape and reached his office building but Dixit followed him on his motorbike and the two got into a brawl. Dixit took out his .32 bore licensed revolver and fired a shot. The bullet pierced through Saraswat’s chest and Dixit escaped from the area leaving his bike behind.
Saraswat was rushed to KGMU trauma centre where he later succumbed to the injury. The police has detained Dixit’s relatives and had been trying to locate him.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
