Intel alert on human bombs
The Central intelligence agencies have in a specific alert to security forces, particularly those guarding the borders in Jammu and Kashmir, warned that Pakistan’s ISI has now trained and deployed highly motivated militant squads of “human bombs” to target Indian security pickets close to the LoC and International Border.
Following the alert, security forces like the BSF and Army, which guard the border and the LoC respectively in Jammu and Kashmir, have been put on high alert. The intelligence report, details of which have been accessed by this newspaper, mentions that these “human bombs” are part of the approximately 300 militants waiting close to the border to sneak into India.
The intelligence agencies had started working on the “human bomb”’ aspect after a militant died in a bomb explosion in Poonch sector in June. Investigations into the incident revealed that the militant had strapped explosives onto his body and blew himself up when challenged by security forces while crossing into Indian territory.
Though initially intelligence agencies had discounted the incident as an exception, a deeper probe revealed the ISI’s plan.
The ISI has already used militant outfits like the LeT to attack Indian troops patrolling the border, as seen when Pakistani Army personnel severed the body of an Indian soldier and then returned it earlier this year.
