Inter girl ends life due to harassment by lecturer
A second year Inter-mediate student hanged herself to death after she was allegedly harassed by lecturers in her college at Munchinguputtu in Vizag Agency on Tuesday.
After the girl was found dead at her home, parents rushed to the college and roughed up the lecturers and principal. The police took two lecturers and an attendant over the issue.
According to reports reaching here, A. Shruthi, 17, was a BiPC student at the government junior college in Munchinguputtu.
On Tuesday morning she went to college to attend practical exams, but returned home weeping and told her parents that that she was denied a hall ticket by her lecturers and therefore could not attend the examination.
Shruthi’s mother went to the college to find out the reason why a hall ticket was denied to her daughter. She was shocked to see her daughter dead and hanging from the ceiling fan when she returned home.
Angry over the death Shruthi’s parents and other family members rushed to the college, damaged furniture and roughed up the lecturers and principal.
Family members also lodged a complaint with the Munchinguputtu police stating that three lecturers, including a woman lecturer and an attendant used to harass Shruthi by isolating her for unknown reasons. Unable to bear the isolation the girl committed suicide.
Acting on the complaint police took two lecturers, N. Lakshman Kumar who teaches chemistry, Padma teaching biology and the attendant Subramanyam into their custody. Another lecturer, K. Damodar who teaches physics is at large. An investigation is on.
